Holiday Confusion

The holidays are upon us, and the confusion begins to take over.  Their is the hustle and bussel of deciding where to go for Thanksgiving, his side or her side, the thoughts of Black Friday and holiday shopping, and the long stretch to Christmas.  How are you ever going to maintain sanity?

Relax.  You’ll get through it; you always do.  But take a different approach this year.  Instead of complaining about all of the stuff that’s going on, embrace it!  Spend time with your spouse and enjoy everything around you.  There is so much to look forward to, not complain about.

  • Christmas Decorations-Take some time to take in the Christmas season and enjoy the festive decorations.  You can find a place nearby that you can drive through and see the displays, and if you don’t have a park around you that offers it, drive through a neighborhood.  You can also bundle up and walk through a neighborhood and share a meaningful stroll together.
  • Holiday Shopping-This one is tough to get the guys to go along with, but gentlemen, share this moment with your wife or girlfriend.  Show them how much you care about them, how much they mean to you, and how nothing is more important to you than being with them.  It will also help them deal with the stress because they won’t feel like they are going through it alone.  Men often forget to put their lady first, so suck it up and go shopping!
  • Volunteer-I know things are crazy and you can barely manage to take care of yourself, but there is such joy in volunteering and helping others.  Give the gift of your time to a stranger who needs you.  The angels are busy this time of year, and regular people have to help out.  Volunteer at a homeless shelter, or children’s hospital.  You and your mate will find it very gratifying, and it will help you appreciate all of the things you do have.  This year will be especially rewarding because the economy has made it difficult for so many.
  • Love-No matter what is going on, you have to remember that you are with the one you are with because you love them!  Share you love, and take time for each other.  Stop thinking about yourself and put your spouse above all.  Share with the the gift that you can’t buy.  Share you, your time, your passion, you soul.  Focus on this gift, and it will be a season they never forget.

The holidays can be rough.  They can knock you around and beat you up.  They can make you wonder if it is all worth it.  Months of preparation to be forgotten in seconds of opening gifts.  What is left on December 26th, anyway?  It’s the love you have with your family, friends, and most of all, your spouse!  Enjoy the journey this year brings, and enjoy each other’s company and passion.  May the season be filled with love and joy, and may the new year bring you growth and happiness!
