Why Men Don’t Call Back

You come home from what you thought was a great date and wait for him to call. You check your voice mail and make sure that your phone is working, because you know that he’s going to call. But he never does. What went wrong? You had a great time and were sure that he felt the same way. Check out the following reasons that men don’t call back and see if you’re guilty of committing any of the “first date sins.”

  • You talk, talk, and talk. When nervous, most people feel that they have to fill in the gaps by talking. Did you talk about yourself during most of the date? You should both talk equal amounts of time. Have you ever been on a date where the man talks about himself and doesn’t ask any questions about you? It feels the same when women do it. To avoid this in the future, tell him something about yourself, and then ask him a question. For example, tell him that you’re favorite book is Anna Karenina, and ask him about his favorite book.

  • You talk about commitment. Women are more likely to be looking for “the one” than men. If you talk about your expectations of getting married within the next two years and having children within the next three years, the man may become scared. Keep those plans to yourself until you get to know your date. An example: One woman showed her date the wedding dress that she had already picked out for her wedding day, and she was confused why he didn’t call her back. Don’t talk about commitment on the first date. You don’t even know if you’re going to want to a long-term relationship with this person.

  • You constantly compare him to your ex-boyfriend. If he tells you that he’s never cheated on someone he’s dated, don’t tell him about your ex-boyfriend who cheated on you and five other women. Don’t tell him that his cologne smells just like your ex’s cologne. Men don’t want to think about you being with other men, and they don’t want to hear details about those men. Just like you’d rather your date not mention his ex-girlfriend’s favorite movie or bra size.

  • You have sex on the first date. This is debatable. Some men love it and some hate it. You take a chance by having sex on the first date. Some men will call you back and date you long-term, and some will be happy with the sex and move on. You don’t know which one your date is until you sleep with him. If there is a lot of chemistry and you sleep with him on the first date, then you should realize that he might think that you always have sex on the first date. He might not consider a woman like that as “long-term material.”

  • You have nothing in common. You might not want him to call back either if you have nothing in common. If he talks about something that interests you, make sure you let him know. Ask him more questions about it and tell him that you’d like to hear more.

  • You act ditzy. Many women believe that men like women without brains. However, most men state that they want a woman to have opinions and share them. Don’t agree with everything he says if you don’t really agree. If he tells you that he loves football and you can’t stand to sit through a game with your brother, don’t pretend. Tell him that your brother’s favorite team is the Atlanta Falcons, but your favorite sport is hockey. He’ll be impressed that you know something about his interests and respect you for your honesty. Plus, telling him that you love something that you hate can set you up for misery in the future when he buys you football season passes for the Broncos.

  • You order a salad and take two bites. If you go out to dinner for the first date, eat. Most men like women who can actually eat real food without complaining about the size of their thighs. Men don’t want a woman to order a side salad at the city’s best burger joint. Don’t put on a dainty woman act, because you think men like it.

First dates can be nerve-racking, especially if you feel a connection with your date. Think about the things that turn you off and make sure you don’t do them yourself. The above “first date sins” aren’t rules you should follow every time. Sometimes you can do the things listed above and not turn him off, but you’re better off avoiding them.
